Crownover Wins!

N.A.G.A. 2007 Report

Jujitsu, a venerable old purely Japanese martial art that spawned the Aiki arts, has hit the mainstream in America and elsewhere.  The crowd was almost overwhelming in size, noise and pure energy.  These people were here to compete.  “Here” was the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) competition held in Grove City, Ohio on July 14, 2007.

Our own Chuck Crownover (Ni Dan, Genwakai) has been training in Jujitsu for a couple years at the Jorge Gurgel dojo in Centerville, Ohio.  You may have heard of Jorge Gurgel.  He is a well-known competitor in the Ultimate Fighting Championship circuit on the national level.

This was the second NAGA tournament Mr. Crownover competed in.  In the first one he was eliminated in his first round.  Not so, in this tournament.  He placed third after 3 grueling matches.  His only loss was to the second place winner.  Due to the draw he was unable to compete against the first place winner.  Overall, it was an impressive showing for Mr. Crownover.

The first picture is of the crowd.  It was well attended by competitors and spectators alike.

These images are of  the first round win against a formidable adversary.

The are pictures of Mr. Crownover competing against the second place winner.  This was the second place winners first round and Mr. Crownover’s second round.  Needless to say, there was an unspoken advantage.

These pictures are a testimony to Mr. Crownover’s endurance.  He handily overpowered his 3rd round opponent, even though he was at a severe disadvantage.  His conditioning was depleted but his fighting spirit carried him through to victory.

Pictured above is Mr. Crownover (right) along with the other winners at the NAGA 2007.

Join me in applauding Mr. Crownover and wishing him a hearty congratulations
