Shodō

Japanese calligraphy is an art form that is performed with brush and ink.   Through proper Shodō application, body and mind are integrated.  Shodō develops the student's state of mental concentration.  Students learn the basic brush strokes and proper posture.  With continuous practice the basic strokes can evolve into works of art.     With Shodō practice the individual achieves sustained and relaxed concentration.  This is the secret to creative growth.   Creative growth is the impetus to overcome the divide between body and mind.    Shodō, part of the Japanese martial tradition, was practiced by the Samurai to develop a single-minded calmness unruffled by adversity.

James Rodriguez trained under a Japanese ninth dan student and teacher of Shodo for over a year, and has continued his training with assistance from other instructors for over 10 years.
