Yamate-ryu Aikijutsu
Aikijutsu is an unarmed system of self-defense directly derived from swordsmanship. In other martial arts, speed and strength are stressed in almost every situation. Aikijutsu techniques, when done properly, will yield the same effective results regardless of speed or strength. Most of the techniques require only a few ounces of pressure to produce spectacular results. Aikijutsu is purely Japanese; originating in the 12th century and passed down as a secret art within the Minamoto clan. In the 20th century it was made public through the efforts of Takeda Sokaku (Dai Sensei) and it was known as Daito Ryū Aikijūjutsu. There are over 30 styles of Aiki taught today. Yamate Ryū Aikijutsu is the style of Aiki taught at Ohio Budôkan. It is a derivative of the original Daito Ryū Aikijūjutsu. Prospective students must be at least 16 years of age and training requirements include Judo uniform, zori (sandals), and bokken (wooden sword). Class Times
